So many people get confused about what items to buy that first time they go grocery shopping with the intent of starting a new healthy way of eating. Here is a list of must have items to keep in stock:
Pantry:
- Almond meal/flour
- Keto approved sweetener: xylitol/stevia/erythritol/monk fruit (I prefer xylitol. Tastes like sugar, perfect for baking)
- Psyllium husks
- xantham gum
- coconut flour
- unsweetened shredded coconut
- Cocoa powder
- Nuts and seeds (avoid peanuts and cashews)
- Nut butters
- Coconut oil
- Avocado/grape seed/olive oil
- Olives
Fridge:
- Salsa
- Sour cream
- Full fat yogurt/cottage cheese
- Avocado
- Full fat cheeses – all types
- Fatty meats (chicken dark meat with skin, steak, sausages)
- Fish and seafood – all types
- Bacon/turkey bacon (look out for no added sugar!)
- Cream cheese
- Heavy Whipping cream
- Mayonnaise
- Eggs
- Berries (strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries)
- Keto-approved veggies
- Salad dressings (Caesar, ranch, blue cheese, etc. BUT check ingredients for added sugars and carbs)
- Butter
- Finely grated Parmesan (used for “breading”)
- Coconut milk
Spices:
- Cinnamon
- Nutmeg
- Cayenne pepper
- Paprika
- Smoked Paprika
- Himalayan Pink salt
- Pepper
- Garlic powder
- onion powder
- dried minced garlic flakes
- dried minced onion flakes
- curry powder
- cajun seasoning (watch for starches added here)
- Dried oregano
- Dried thyme
- Dried rosemary
